About Higher Level Sound

It's easier to do it right the first time, than it is to come up with an excuse.

The event has to be perfect. It has to have an impact. It has to mean something.
Or else… Why are you doing it?

Throughout my career, I’ve done almost everything media-related except for television and movies.
I’ve planned events for schools, weddings, corporate events, and nightclubs.
I’ve done sound, lighting, concert tours, and working on the air in San Diego radio.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the greatest music artists of our time.
I’ve worked with Fortune 500 companies and major product rollout events.
I’ve also DJ’ed your cousin’s wedding, your dad’s retirement party, and your great-grandmother’s centenarian celebration.
I love what I do.
My passion has gone from loving the music and playing big shows to enjoying my clients happiness and watching their friends come together for a great celebration.
Memories that will be talked about for decades, and last a lifetime.
That’s the legacy I want to leave.

About High Level Sound

With over 1000 weddings and hundreds of other events under my belt, it’s clear that I’ve helped create countless joyous memories for my clients.I’ve always known that if you love what you do, it never feels like work.

I discovered my passion for event planning when I was still in middle school, and I knew right away that it was what I wanted to do for a living. From there, I quickly realized that I could turn my love for planning events into a successful career.

When I started out, I had a radio program director tell me that people who do this job are neurotic, insecure, and need the sound of applause. Looking back, I can see that I was all three! In the early days of my career, I would often do four school shows in one day, week after week. I even ditched school to go to other schools and do lunchtime presentations or shows. For three years in a row, I did over 250 shows either on my own or with help, all while maintaining an on-air radio schedule.

Throughout my career, I’ve done almost everything media-related except for television. I’ve planned events for schools, weddings, corporate events, and nightclubs, all before I turned 21. By the time I was 30, I was doing sound, lighting, concert tours, and working on the air in San Diego.

My birthday is on August 12th, and no matter where I am, I always seem to be working on that day.

It’s funny, but my family has grown up supporting me in this industry. We have scheduled family time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
My youngest, David, who is now 15, helps me double-check my checklist and load and unload the truck.

My oldest, Noa, who is almost 18, tries to talk me into purchasing bigger and more expensive lights and speakers that we will never use. Yes, it would be great to have a new concert sound rig from JBL, but the $300,000 price tag is a bit steep, and the semi-truck won’t fit in the driveway.

I've known Mike for decades and everytime we've hired him, he's knocked it out of the park. Family party, corporate holiday party, whatever the task, he comes through and makes sure everyone is enjoying themselves. And Mike doesn't just care about the music, he wants to know everything you have planned so he can help facilitate those activities. Need everyone occupied at one point, he'll find the music to get everyone on the floor. Need everyone off the floor? He can, with subtlety, drive them to their seats. Mike's a pro that's been at this for nearly three decades and knows his stuff. Trust him and you'll be pleased.

We hired Mike for our October wedding and he nailed it. All of our guests commented on how great the music was. We had some unique music requests and Mike provided insightful input. For example, we wanted to use the Jurassic Park theme song for the wedding processional and Mike was worried the guests would associate the bridesmaids with dinosaurs. We moved forward after discussing and EVERYONE loved it! He is very knowledgeable about music selections and listens to your vision. We even had a few communication and logistic issues with our venue but Mike saved the day. If you're looking for a fun time, hire Mike!

Mike Thomas was our wedding ceremony and reception DJ and we couldn't have a more perfect time with Mike at the helm! He is awesome and helped us plan from start to finish our best day ever! He is insightful, professional, enthusiast, funny and offered some great suggestions for the types of music we wanted him to play as well as giving him leeway to infuse oldies and current tunes of his choice. He was excellent and everyone said our wedding was great and that they danced all night! We highly recommend Mike, he's the best!

Mike was fantastic!! My husband and I got married at the end of last month and everything was what we expected and more. Prior to the event, Mike met with us, listened to our requests, and checked in on us from time to time to see how we were doing. Our main goal for the wedding celebration after the ceremony was for everyone to have a good time and dance all night long. This was accomplished with the help of Mike. He was enthusiastic, fun, personable, played great music, and kept the party going. The dance floor was full the entire night. We absolutely loved Mike and working with him to make our wedding unforgettable and very memorable. We highly recommend him!!

Mike did an excellent job for my husband and I, especially considering that everything was done on very short notice. My husband is in the navy and we had to do things a little differently than normal because of work scheduling issues. Mike was flexible, supportive and very understanding. The music was great, tasteful, and the whole night went off without a hitch! I highly recommend him and this company for future events of all kinds :). Thank you!!

Mike was recommended by my co-worker who had used him for her wedding! Mike was personable, kind, and really listened to my husband and my needs. My mom commented how Mike "didn't talk to much and just played music so others could have a good time" some family members said "he was the best DJ they have had at a wedding". We would use Mike again in a heart beat!
